For many 2020 has been a byword for terrible things. I don’t want to cheapen people’s experience, as many have had to deal with the effects of the Coronavirus, job losses and other terrible events. I hope that you are all doing okay and if not I hope the new year makes things better for you. Support is out there and if you need it there are people to help you, professional or otherwise.
With that being said, this blog is not about the negative aspects of 2020. This year was a challenge but there were also positives. New avenues, new talents, while still benefiting from loyal support, in terms of creative talent, crowdfunders and local businesses.

A year in art- Thanks to everyone who contributed!

Art Shaneoid77
OC Euan Echidhog
As well as being my birthday, this was our Fanart Friday for OCs. Among the excellent entries we got Shaneoid77’s version of Euan Echidhog’s OC.
This did result in a bit of confusion on my part, something I’ve had to learn this year!
However, it was one of a number of fantastic bits of art as we continued our Fanart Friday videos.
February

Jed Soriano variant cover
This month we focused on variant covers. While these had been featured before, our Fanart Friday showcase is also about showcasing the incredible talent. The likes of Jed Soriano, Dan Butcher, Leolionz, GreyofPTA and Susie Gander all had work shown in this month’s video.
March
SecretBetweenTheWars created this fantastic illustration for ButtonTheLugia’s OC Haley (check out the short story here)

As things started to get worse in 2020, there was an awareness of the importance of keyworkers. To raise funds, Susie Gander did some special charity commissions for the NHS and one of them I’m happy to say is my profile pic!

One thing we are always looking for is new artists, and I love the distinct and supercute style of SmolSammichOwO
June

Shaneoid77 once again came through, love this pic of AK Girl!
July

Costume Swap by Spaton37
Throughout the year we were looking for entries for our Calendar Contest. Minuteman Press Norwich chose Spaton37’s Costume Swap as the winner!
August

AK Girl (https://www.deviantart.com/jericawinters)
2020 couldn’t stop AK August! As well as lots of tie-ins ( toy ideas, what’s the deal with her caramel inflation and even a quiz!) I was also very happy to see the excellent Jerica Winters provide her take on AK Girl. You can see more of her work here.
September

September saw the arrival of Joe Draco Petterson’s Reynard City Chronicles issue 2, something I was personally very chuffed with (If you haven’t read it already it’s available at our Ko-Fi shop) Also shoutout to Hayley Evenett, AJ Deane and Hollie Harrington-Ball for the awesome voice work!
Inspired by Tawna in Crash 4 and Into The Spiderverse, September saw us look into alternate worlds with that month’s Fanart Friday.
October

Hyper Rob Frankenstein (https://www.deviantart.com/timemaster1320)
In order to get in the Halloween spirit (pun totally intended) we went with a range of spooky pics, as well as some characters in costume (with an additional shoutout to the cosplay people, hope to see more cosplay in 2021!)
I chose to highlight Timemaster1320 due to the range of art they did for us, but also because it really fit what we were going for!
Sadly MCM cancelling in 2020 meant we were not able to attend. However, we did manage to get some support from local businesses Baobab Marketing, That Cafe, Polly’s Pantries and Morton Reeves Real Estate Agent so we could promote issue 2 at Castle Quarter for our Cupcakes And Comics event.

November

Just in time before lockdown, Emily Bandicoot managed to get issue 3 out to us. An excellent finish to our first major story arc, Emily worked hard and it was great to see people come out to support her.
To tie in with the themes of this issue, this month’s Fanart Friday was a villain special!

December 2020 proved to be one of our most hectic months- We finally managed to post out all the rewards for our crowdfunders, we got sales at Canary Comics and Beccles Books, We won a month’s Ko-Fi gold membership from On Second Watch podcast, allowing us to post up commissions on our page, as well as movie reviews and a final 2020 Fanart Friday.
What made this last one special? Like I say in the video, I can’t say thank you enough to the people who submitted art- so I got some people to do it for me. Also I’ve included some more fave videos below to get this all in!
What next after 2020?
It’s thanks to all the awesome people that keep us going that 2020 can’t keep Reynard City away! We are currently working on Reynard City Chronicles issue 4, more video content is coming soon and we still want to see your fanart (especially as next month it’s my birthday!)
Please support us on Patreon, Ko-Fi, sponsorship or Paypal- you allow us to support the fantastic creative talent that makes this happen and allow us to work with phenomenal local and independent businesses. If you have any questions, use the form or email us reynardcity@gmail.com!
