#AKAugust short story Psychic Vixen

Note: This short story takes place between Yes Sensei ( The story of Vibes’ childhood and development of her powers) and the events of Reynard City Issue 1 (You can see these and more in our issues section).

An off start: the rise of Psychic Vixen! (Short Story by Van Hikari)

Vibes is in a small apartment, taking off a Swampville Stop n’ Shop uniform apron.

“Ok. How about “AK Girl”? I AM the planet’s only hero after all, Sal.” Vibes talks into the cell phone, a sigh from Sally responding on the other end.

“Vibes do you realize how pretentious that sounds? That kind of thing only works when the planet is gone.”

“Oh fine ya spoil sport. So, will I see you when I go famous?”

Another sigh, this one of regret. “Well…. I have a modelling thing out of town. Sorry”

Vibes nods. “Alright. We’ll pick up when you get ba-“ She is cut off as Sally hangs up. “Huh. Maybe she went into a tunnel. Ah well. Maybe go for a literal name. Psychic Vixen? People get away with worse. Now to get a costume together.”

She hurries to the closet, finding a leather jacket and pants “Hmm… welp I’m not gonna find an excuse to wear this much leather otherwise.” Vibes sets to work on stitching the new PV logo onto the jacket.

A few weeks later “Psychic Vixen” is out on patrol, looking for any kind of wrong doing. “Man, how does The Bat do this rooftop observation stuff? It’s gotta be the foot claws”

As she talks to herself an alarm rings out “Time to do some heroing!”

Vibes activates speed mode and runs down the building and to the sound. At the Cell Shop a couple of goons are gathering up the phones and money from the register

“Hurry up!”

“I’m going as fast as I can!”

There is a rush of wind as Vibes stands at the door. “Not fast enough, boys!”

“It’s a bit early for Halloween, kid”

Vibes smirks “Time for you two to face the newest super hero. Who would you want for your-“

Before Vibes can finish a gun shot rings out, Vibes barely getting up a shield in time, though still being knocked back by the concussive force

“OOF!” the goons scramble to get out of the area.

“The freak does have powers!”

Vibes manages to get back up as they get in a car.

“Ok, gotta work on shock impact. Noted.”

She glows green as she switches to speed mode and gives chase before switching to strength mode, a telltale red glow, and punching through to the motor.

“Now then. Since you’re the first bust who would you like to play you in my movie?” Soon the police arrive and arrest the goons as newscasters try to interview Vibes.

From a police station the chief watches the live feed…

“Now we have super powered freaks…. bring her in. I’d like to have a word with her, nothing arrest worthy though. Just a feeling we may need her on our good side.” He puts down his radio. “Psychic Vixen huh? She’ll need to work on that.”

Elsewhere Sally watches from her work place’s TV “She really did it!”

“Hey waitress. My coffee?”

“Oh right. Sorry sir!” hurries over, hiding a proud and yet….jealous smirk.

Finally in a high end apartment a fox in a pinstripe suit watches…

“This could be a problem. Last thing I need is an attention seeking “hero” ruining potential connections” the fox picks up a set of papers “We’ll need to speed up operation “MegaFox” to counter this new measure.” He crosses out a few lines of potential code that he can’t read, one of which he misses the crucial word “Obey.exe” before walking out to pass on the changes.
