Torathena aka Lucy Myatt, owner of Level Up in Liverpool1
Torathena (aka Lucy Myatt) is someone I met while visiting Liverpool on a day trip (it wasn’t just the comic shop, also had a great time catching up with friends, going to the docks, Maritime Museum and visiting the Cavern Quarter. I am a big fan of her Youtube channel because she talks about films, books, cosplay and so forth, all fun nerdy stuff that I am a big fan of.
Also we (sort of) got a namecheck in one of her videos!
Equally I thought this was a good opportunity to talk about Patreon. Like me she also has a Patreon and I wanted to highlight this because it is important to support people as well.
One reason I support her is that I grew up with my Dad’s business opposite our house, so for a large part of my life I have seen someone run their own business and know how hard it is. Lucy’s channel provides an insight that people may not have into this as it is easy to think “Oh I wouldn’t know what to do” or “I wouldn’t get any work done.”
If you work for yourself then you know the reality is that you are often working a lot harder than a lot of people on a regular work shift as there is less of a framework so if anything there is more of a tendency to push yourself harder, sometimes arguably more than is healthy.
Where Lucy is brilliant is that she is honest, detailing the triumphs and tribulations of the day in equal measure. If you get the chance I heartily recommend subscribing to her YouTube channel and if you get the chance visit her shop in Liverpool as it is very charming. I like her inventive ideas like the geeky jewellery lucky dip and comics from your birthdate.
