So London MCM October 2019 is done, we are now back in Norwich. With this in mind, was it worth the epic trek to the capital? Here is our report!
Set up
It’s been a few years since we were last at London MCM. I went down with my friend Gizzy, the idea being that I would mostly handle selling/promoting at the table while he went around getting pictures/promoting the comic (More on that later).
I strongly recommend having someone with you at a con for a couple of reasons-
1. Having someone with you during the travel time helps and it helps when it’s someone you like.
2. Practical reasons such as when you want to go for lunch.
In Gizzy’s case, he has been a legend for us. He is so keen and passionate, helping us to spread the word and supporting us through tough times.
Our table
Our table was at CV151, next to Word For Word Bible Comic (a visual representation of translated stories from the Bible) and Soundimals (A fun educational title, talking about things like the different noises dogs make in different languages!)
So the table set up included a display of flyers, postcards, as well as gift packs (Either including the comic, mug or postcard). We also had Gizzy’s laptop- it was a smart move as we had a highlights package of various videos.
Highlights
Away from our table, London MCM had some great highlights- there was a presentation for upcoming Shining sequel, iconic Wonder Woman artist George Perez’s potential final panel, a charmingly retro “Moving cinema” to present shows such as the first episode of the new Watchmen series, as well as celebrities such as voice actor Tara Strong and Cornetto Trilogy icon Simon Pegg.
As ever with any con, London MCM featured some truly awesome cosplay. Thanks to Gizzy, we got some great pics and promo poses! We have tagged names on as many people as possible in these pics. If you see yourself or someone you know please tell us so I can put a caption on for you!
A personal highlight for me was getting to catch up with friends like Baobab Marketing’s Caron Lemmer, superfab writer Melissa Compton, film supremo Dr Vince, The Dogtor and Xeno. Xeno came down from Canada, and for me it was special as he was one of the people who supported our Issue 2 crowdfunder earlier in the year. As you can see, he’s got his own distinct style!
Special thanks
Our appearance at London MCM only happened due to some fab people who helped support us- Sacha at Travel Counsellors, Minuteman Press, Norwich Kitty, Visualise, Couzens-Lake Media, Badge Base and all our fantastic crowdfunders (You can get some special items if you order from our shop now or back our Patreon, Ko-Fi or donate via Paypal)
Our next event will be at the Castle Quarter Christmas Fair on 16/17th November- If you’re in Norwich we hope you’ll join us, contact us here if you would like to sponsor us!
