Brunel as AK Girl (Art by Fleetwaychaser)
Hello Reynard City fans, my name is Brunel and here is my review of Reynard City.
If you are looking for a graphic novel with a classic cartoon and comics style, then I have the publication series for you. So, let’s speed mode into the surreal and spectacular world of Reynard City Chronicles Issue 1: A Tale of Two Worlds!
The characters were created by author of the graphic novel Reynard City Chronicles Rob Turner, but artwork belongs to the artists that work on comics (each issue has its own credit page detailing of the roles of the creative team).
The Reynard City graphic novel is based on the original Reynard City webcomic series and was influenced by 80s and 90s cartoons like TMNT and ThunderCats however with a fun quirky take on the superhero genre with a Saturday morning cartoon twist.

Story section
Let’s talk about the story, I will be reading a short description from the back of comic book without spoiling important parts of story. You’ll have to buy your own copy for that hehe!
Vibes McAllister lives a day-to-day life as a radio DJ with occasional night-time gigs. However, she has recently started having strange dreams of another life. What follows is an adventure involving superhero foxes, disgruntled former caterers, a bizarre reaction to caramel and an evil robot fox and his army.
When I first heard that the webcomic was getting a reboot and reimagined in a graphic novel format I was on the fence because I grew up reading the original during my childhood and teen years, so I brought my self a printed copy of the first rebooted comic book. I was amazed by how Rob Turner had re-written all his original stories and merged them into issue one (the original stories are still available in the archive section of www.reynardcitychronicles.com)
I like how the characters are introduced slowly with the pacing of story. It gives the person who is reading the comic an easy time reading at their own pace without overwhelming the reader.
I like the comedy and mature themes and how the story balances them both together inspired by some elements of real-life.

Comic art by Nicholas Webb and Strider Syd
Syd Gutierrez and Nicholas C. Webb did fantastic work on the characters and background. I like the classic 80s anime style.
The cover artwork for issue 1 is vibrant with colours showing the characters in a new look. I like the 200 animated film vibes, the way they did the main villain as though he’s observing them, the dark colour tones give him a 3D looking style.
The layout of the comic panels and letting with coloured texted boxes showing which character is talking. I like the font’s style too.
I love the Easter eggs and foreshadowing in the art. I also like how art shows glimpses of characters past without revealing too much, I will leave it there.
I really like new logo titles of comic by Jed Soriano (who also worked on original webcomic , specifically the issues Alternotron and Subconscious Pt 2). The fox tail logo is a nice touch. I noticed Nicholas and Syd worked on the old comic as well so it is good to see them both return.
I love the cover on back styles as it reminds me of classic comics, it fits the graphic novel very nicely. I like the black and red outlines of two characters in story.
I like the printed style of issue 1. It has a retro theme with a modern twist.

The Characters
Let’s meet the new versions of Reynard City heroes and villains.
First, we will start with the main girl herself, Vibes Mcallister is your average adult, working as a radio DJ, I bet you’re thinking she doesn’t look like a super heroine and you’re right! Vibes is her human form and nickname. She is actually AK Girl the superhero vixen. She has a quirky personality with an unusual reaction to caramel.

Art by Strider Syd and Nicholas Webb
Then next we have her teammate,” Hyper Rob” (Short for Guillermo Roberto Del Zorro Rodriguez.) He’s a hero that lets his emotions get the better of him, but he is a good guy, a loyal friend who reminds me of another fox with a stylish outfit!

Art by Strider Syd and Nicholas Webb
We also have multiple supporting characters who have vibrant outfits and thoughtful personalities.
You can’t have a story without good and evil:
Let’s start off with Mr Knox a corrupt businessman who is the owner of SilverFox News. We also have Mr Knox ‘s lackeys (they’re just henchmen!)
Mr Knox and his men are not major villains but were worth a small mention.
And then next we have the disgruntled caterer and her work colleagues who bear a grudge on a certain place.
I have saved the best for last the main villain himself villain herself, Mega Fox. The cold hearted machine with a fearsome robot army who follows his every whim.
His improved design, metallic and vivid gives Mega Fox a menacing impression.
The Conclusion
Reynard City Chronicles: A tale of worlds is a brilliant follow-up to the webcomic. Thank you, Rob Turner, for letting me review your comic series.
I love how it merged 6 original webcomic issues into one.
Syd Gutierrez and Nicholas C. Webb did fantastic work on the comic, and I recommend you checking out their social medias to see more of their work.
Make sure you check out the original first, it’s a great way to introduce new readers to the reboot.
The webcomics are free to read on the website archives, there are also bonus comics to check out too.
That’s all folks for this review. I hope all you enjoyed it, have fantastic day!
Reynard City Chronicles Issue 2
Disclaimer before I start the review trigger warning of this comic review will be covering a topic about a mental condition called Body Dysmorphia.
Body Dysmorphia is a mental health condition where a person spends a lot of time worrying about their appearance.
The person may worry a lot about how specific parts of their body looks. It affects their personality and life.
The treatment for Body Dysmorphia includes talking to a therapist. Thank you for reading.
Additional editor’s note- For a more indepth look at body dysmorphia, I recommend this fantastic video by Pushing Up Roses

Hello everyone, it’s me Brunel Back again to do another review on the Reynard City Chronicles comic series. If you want to know why I didn‘t mention the last member of the team issue you will see why.
Let’s read Reynard City Chronicles: The Liar Revealed.

Art by Joe Draco Petterson
Story
The story starts with main hero narrating about herself standing in the burning ruins before slowly transitioning back to the therapy room with a support character. Then we catch up with Hyper Rob and AK Girl in their human forms (Guillermo and Vibes) at a diner talking.
I like how the story introduces focuses on the main hero together with new villains by slowly revealing them.
I love how the comic balances the topic and Saturday morning cartoon humour by picking the right moments.
I like how the story uses returning characters for comic by showing more of their personalities.
Artwork
Let’s talk have a look at the artists’ interpretation of the comic and the characters as well as their art style.
Joel Draco Pettersson and Salthefreak’s semi realistic cartoon style fits perfectly with the comic theme. There are easter egg and cameos within the comic. Without spoiling the comic, I’ll leave it there.
The cover artwork for issue 2 is surprising with the web of liars and how it represents the tone of comic. I love how art shows the main heroine in her two forms together with silhouette of the new villain.
The logo changes on the comic to match style of the story. It’s a nice detail.
I kind of like the old, printed style but love how they changed it by showing the new one- it is effective and how it shows the people who sponsored and supported the comic.

RC Chronicles issue 2 art Joe Draco Petterson
The Characters
Let’s talk about the heroes and support characters first then the villains last.
We will start off the heroine of the story herself, Sally Joanna Sabrina Vixen is her human form name. She is the super heroine vixen called Wondervixen! She has a strong personality but there more to her underneath the surface. Her emotional abuse lead to her to suffering a real-life mental condition called body dysmorphia.
I love her new look together with her weapon. It has that Ancient Greek look with a modern twist to it.
Then next we have her best friend and partner,
Vibes also known as AK Girl, we get to see more lot more of her personality and powers with small glimpses of her past.
Guillermo also known as Hyper Rob, we see him worrying about his partner Sally.
And after that next we have the two supporting characters,
Dr Anty is a kind counsellor who is different from your average doctor.
“Rote” short for Rotecol, he might look like your average grumpy mechanic but there more to him.
Now we have the villain section.
Let’s starts off with, El Paso Grande has a lively personality with an outfit that matches him.
Ian Austin creator of the villain, his work on the character fits perfectly for story plot and mystery.
Then next we have the returning villain together with her team.
Caramel Girl is your average adult who use to be a former caterer but has now become a criminal and has chosen the name of her arch nemesis’ weakness. In this issue she got an outfit update.
The Bakery Boys are loyal and never left her side.
They did reveal their names in last comic, but I wanted show more of villain together with her team
I like how El Paso Grande and Caramel girl with her team, have a variety of weapons that fit their theme.
Also, we have next. Mr Knox who’s influence of power and money didn’t save him from Mega fox. He wasn’t an important character and only pushed another character part in story.
The Consortium is an unknown group who watches the heroes and their puppet.
Mega Fox, we got to see more of his cruel personality together with small glimpses of his abilities and robots.
Temptress has a siren voice with a new look that matches her poisonous personality. I like her ability works on both genders than just one and how it breaks the old media trope of desires only affecting men.
And after that next we have the mysterious new villain Herself, Perfect Platinum is a heartless creature but there is one question- who made her?
I love her new design with the silvery stainless look.
I love two new female villains for comic who are both brilliant representation the negative side of the disorder by showing mental health and body imagery through the story.

Perfect Platinum by Susie Gander

The story starts with our characters heading toward Mega Fox’s lair, Wondervixen and AK Girl following Hyper Rob close behind, trying catch up with him. Facing trouble trying to save Hyper Rob, the girls must fight their way out of their ambush in order to save their friend from Mega Fox’s manipulation that he holds over Hyper Rob.

Finally saving the best for last, we have the main villain of the series himself herself, Mega Fox. I will say one thing, he is a monstrous and brilliant villain.

Elie Renard Delisle Lafortune style for this comic mixes bright and dark colours, which fit nicely with the narrative’s theme.
The cover artwork for issue 6 is astonishing with art splitting the two heroes and villains in different angles. I like how the main hero of the story is holding a robot soldier head on the cover also as its striking to look at and gives immediate insight of the story.
There are also some notable hidden references and cameos throughout the comic that you should keep an eye out for, but without giving too much away, I’m going to leave it there.
I think the printed style is effective and how it shows the people who supported the comic series.
I admire the unique details as it shows the scenes of the comic together with the story.
