What is a variant art cover and what do we want from our variant art cover contest? There are a couple of versions- one could be a version of an existing cover (for example the Marvel Zombies doing zombie versions referencing previous issues, or Deadpool doing a parody of previous covers). Another can be looking at a different aspect of an issue and doing a different cover based on that. Below are a few examples that we are talking about.

This is one example of a variant cover by Susie Gander- this was one of two choices for the final design. While a different cover won out in the end I really like this one as it is quite intense and sums up the surrealness of the issue.

In this instance Jed Soriano did his take on an existing cover- what I like about his style is that it is very animated, reminding me a lot of the recent Thundercats reboot (which while it had its flaws in my opinion had an incredible art style, for comparison here is the original.
Of course we do also do homages to other classics as well, such as Dan Butcher’s fantastic Star Wars homage cover he did for our first issue collection.


And so we come to the contest- what we want you to do is your variant cover. The deadline is 30th June and you can do your version of our covers or a classic comic cover using the Reynard City covers. An independent judge will look over this and you will get prizes including a Fox Box and some goodies with your variant cover on it!
