Last week it was movies this week it is your Reynard City comic spinoff pitch ideas. We had a range of fantastic ideas from fun shorts to prequels and solo character stories. We have a video to go with this but we wanted to give some extra comments here.
Hero stories
So for our first Reynard City comic spinoff stop, let’s check out what folks have come up with for the heroes.

I like Seb’s thinking here- we did touch on Sal’s origin with the short comics Chubby Little Secret and Revelation but there is scope for more.
“To see a form of either prequel or continuation comic series starring Rotecol definitively would’ve been neat I believe, seeing the events before and after his involvement with the foxy trio – and if not having the ability to transform into his German Shepherd form tonight bad guys, probably see his expertise of repairing machines and creating gadgets to help him and friends/company out of predicaments very much like Wildcat from TaleSpin or Gadget from Chip & Dale’s Rescue Rangers.” Joe Draco Petterson (https://www.deviantart.com/joeltheswedishdragon)
Joe brings up a good point with this one- Rotecol’s back story was briefly touched on in the Origin of Mega Fox and spinoff short story The Explorer Diaries (partially inspired by the Kris Kristofferson song Darby’s Castle). It would be cool to show a bit more behind his gruffness!
“1) Slice of life shorts like “An Evening at home with AK Girl” even if its just binge watching TV, having a bath and reading a book.”
2) Another short: el paso grande goes to a baking competition, ends up against Sal and tries to decide if he should forfeit or not. Non canon event, just for laughs etc.
3) Another short: Who of the heroes can do the most pushups, would they sabotage each other over a friendly competition? Wouldn’t need villains around to mess their plans up if they decide to play dirty haha.”

Okay- First off the idea of some fun Reynard City comic spinoff shorts appeals, similar to what the Sonic comics used to do. The “slice of life” angle appeals as well, adding a bit of levity while still getting some character building in there too.

Okay this one is quite specific- it is something we have gone into before but it could be cool to have someone create a visual for it. As an aside the inspiration for AK Girl’s weakness comes from a couple of things- cartoons such as Real Ghostbusters, Sonic The Hedgehog and Ninja Turtles all had episodes where the characters changed at some point, often involving cartoonish inflation.
Another aspect is holistic theory- the idea that the body can be affected by the mind and the mind can be affected by the body. While this was always part of the comic it was incorporated more when I worked for a massage equipment company and learned about pressure points.
Crossovers

When it comes to Reynard City comic spinoff pitches, crossovers are always a fun thing to speculate on. Whether it’s your OC. I love that Adventures of Lollipop is so generous that her pitch is for someone else to have a guest spot (the fabulous Jon Esparza’s Bubble Fox!)

Villains

It’s interesting that of all the Reynard City comic spinoff pitches we had a large proportion of them were villain focused stories. Not that we’re complaining- it’s fair to say villains are the most fun to write and there is definitely scope to see where they came from.
We already mentioned the short covering Mega Fox’s origin but there is scope for widening the story there and that in turn would tie in with the origin of the war for the planet Animal Kingdom.
This is where the original webcomic differs from Reynard City Chronicles- effectively the first three issues are set during the war for the planet while in Chronicles it’s more in flashbacks as Vibes learns about herself.
I can’t talk too much about Romana because spoilers but there are a few directions she could go while Insect Girl has a character arc of her own.

Honestly I don’t know how Issue 9 ends, but I’d enjoy seeing one off spinoffs about various villains in similar situations, case in point while the fact that she’s been transformed into a robot makes it slightly more likely that she might be killed off I’d still lay heavy odds against it that Caramel Girl/Metal Caramel Vixen is going to die in issue 9, so a story about her finally going to jail, reflecting that she was at least partially to blame for how she made the bad situations in her life worse, and trying to figure out some way to be happy would be interesting.
Because, even without raising the issue of morality, Caramel Girl was still living an incredibly self destructive lifestyle based around the idea that she a woman with no powers would routinely pick fights with a trio of heroes, and just because Vibes is weak to caramel doesn’t change the fact that Sally and Guillermo aren’t.
Caramel Girl/Caramel Metal Vixen is just one example of course, there might be other villains who end up surviving issue 9 who could have “send off” stories written about them.
Another obvious one being that we could get still more of an indepth look at what is going on inside Warp King’s head, though I wouldn’t be surprised if issue 9 ends up doing that on its own.
